What Happens during a First Dental Visit?
At your first dental visit, we will thoroughly examine your mouth, teeth, and gums. We aren’t just
looking for cavities. We will be looking for signs of gum disease, misaligned teeth, uneven wear and
tear, and other warning signs of tooth and gum disease. We will also conduct a comprehensive exam to
look for signs of oral cancer. Dentists are the first line of defense against oral cancer, one of
the most common types of cancers in the world.
What Is a Routine Teeth Cleaning?
Usually, we will also perform a routine teeth cleaning
at your first dental visit. During the cleaning, our dental hygienist will gently scrape away plaque
and tartar buildup that attracts bacteria. This bacteria can damage teeth and gums, so it is
important to get your teeth professionally cleaned at least twice per year.
